This region lies on the West Coast,
just south of Galway. Rugged limestone terrain is slapped up next
to lush green grass that trails to the ocean. You can see the edge of these jagged rocks
at the top of the photo on the right. (Click on photo for larger view.)
Brian, Jessie and I drove to the Cliffs of Moher on a Friday
afternoon, arriving just at dusk. The cliffs are some 760 feet high, and stretch for
five miles along the Atlantic Ocean. You can walk right up to the edge of them and
peer over. It was windy and quiet on the evening that we visited, and we laid
along the edge staring at the crashing waves below and feeling the movement
of the wind and sea all around us. That evening, we stayed over in Doolin to listen to some
traditional music in the local pubs, and the next morning we headed back up the coast,
through the Burren to Galway.
